Dear Fellow Member,
Formerly known as Fields in Trust, the Friendship League (FL) is a competition between 10 Glasgow south-side Clubs, Cathkin Braes, Haggs Castle, East Renfrewshire, Cowglen, Fereneze, Bonnyton, Whitecraigs, Cathcart Castle, Williamwood and Pollok. The FL runs in conjunction with the Brand Putter (BP) League over 9 consecutive Thursday evenings between 13th May – 8th July. The FL format is for teams of 6 players to play in 3 Fourballs against each of our 9 neighbouring Clubs, either home or away. This year we have 4 Home and 5 Away matches, playing against the same club on the same night as the Brand Putter team. So, if for instance the Pollok BP team was at home, the FL team would be away, and vice-versa.
For obvious reasons the FL was not competed for last year, all the more to look forward to it this year. The matches are played in a very friendly spirit, usually followed by a high tea provided by the host Club. Hopefully the usual format will be allowed come the middle of May. They’re a great opportunity to meet members of our neighbouring clubs, and to play their courses.
To be eligible to play in the matches you must be aged 50 or over, and have a maximum handicap of 12.
If you would like to be considered to play for Pollok in this year’s matches, please reply by 21st April to:
Before the end of April I’ll send out a full schedule of the matches to check everyone’s availability and which matches they’d like to be considered for. Looking forward to your replies, particularly from those young bucks who turned 50 in the last couple of years, call it the Pollok youth policy…
